Excellent lighting, fair quality construction, great value for money.I installed these lights on a Saab 900SE next to a set of KC Pencil Beam driving lights. While they are not the quality of the KC lights, they are nevertheless reasonable quality and VERY good value for the money.Install was typical - no easier or harder than installing any other brand.Light output with 55 watt bulbs is EXCELLENT with a TIGHT, LONG RANGE BEAM. Not quite as focused as the KCs - but there isn't much in it -- and the light output seems as bright as the KCs with 100 watt bulbs.Because the housing is plastic I have not run the Hella's with 100 watt or 130 watt bulbs, I may give it a try during the winter.For me the wiring harness was a little light -- especially since I commonly use 100 watts bulbs, but so long as you use a relay to switch the lights and keep the runs short it will be more than adequate - but I'm an "overkill" type when it comes to wiring so I replaced the harnesses with #12 Tefzel (aircraft) wire for each...
great lights great price!
I bought these to replace the factory fog lamps on my wifes 2004 Subaru Forester, which were trashed from 130K of hard use. Had to do some "creative engineering" to get them to fit into the holes in the front bumper but they came out great! The wiring instructions are a little bit hard to follow and mt lights didn't include them in the package (downloaded the PDF [...]) Once I puzzled them out the wiring harness is well thought out and made installing the light pretty bomb-proof. I highly recommend these for daily, on-road use.
HELLA 500 FF Driving Lights - Very Nice
Ok, the 500FF driving lights are a good design in how it projects the light in front of the vehicle. I have been driving with Hellas in both my cars and 4x4s since 1985. They make damn good driving lights both on and off-road. I say that the 500s in stock form do a nice job in the city. However, if you do any off-roading and these are the only auxilary lights you have then I would recommend upgrading the bulbs to a 100W or 130W. Of course the modification will make them unusable in city driving.Personally I have adopted these as fog lights with crystal ion fog bulbs from PIAA. The PIAA bulbs and Hella 500s are a perfect match and work great in snow and dense fog. I don't like the conventional fog lights because the light pattern spreads too much light above the hood which is not needed.I have a FJ Cruiser with a grill guard where these puppies are mounted on the lower crossmember close to the ground. Another great KC ProductThese lights work great. We have been doing more and more night jeep trails and geocaches and with that comes the need for more light. I picked up these lights and must say that I have no regrets!! They housing is very sturdy, the wiring is good, the switch is not the old fashioned toggle junk and the output is great. I am sure you can get some others that are much more brighter but in all honesty these work fantastic! Well worth the money and I will be getting a few more for other directions ;)
High quality product
I highly recommend these lights; I ordered them for a friend who installed them in a Jeep TJ near the windshield. We have taken his Jeep to the beach and other rural areas where there is limited light and these KC work very good. Perhaps, the best hallogens I have ever seen.
They call them daylighters for a reason.
KC developed the KC Daylighter in the late 70's. This product as you can see has survived well. The Daylighter (DL) series has outlasted any other design of off road lighting by far, as a matter of fact company's like "Hella" and "PIAA" all have models fashioned after the rugged and durable DL. For anyone skeptical about buying this product just remember that KC offers a 23 year (Yes 23 years) guarantee on this and many of their other products. That will more than likely out last the vehicle they are bolted on. KC always imitated never duplicated!

great warranty 23 yrsWe all know the lights are great but the warranty is really great. I've had a pair of these for over ten years in black chrome (titanium model no longer available) and they eventually developed light rust on the housings (by the way - I never waxed them for added protection). They were on an SUV that was parked outside for the entire time. KC readily replaced them with brand new Daylighters without a question. Certainly, a great company to honor such a warranty.

I have always purchased Hella's for my other vehicles but could not find a light that suited my needs with them. I looked at Delta's, PIAA's, IPF's, etc before deciding on KC LiLites. The 631 set is complete and easy to install. I had them up and working in 60 minutes. They are bright, making my headlamps look dim. However, they put off a lot of heat. Also, I am not a big fan of the mounting bolt although its effective.In general I would recommend these lights. [...]

what is the best auxillary bateery to run 4 Hella off road lights that will not be connected to an alternator?
I'm hooking up lights on my golf cart and want to run the lights off of a seperate battery.
Gel cell - they hold charge forever,and you can mount them upsidedown if needed.

Electrical question on mounting Hella 500 Off Road Lights?
I'm mounting Off Road Lights on my 2004 Tacoma, I was going to wire it to the fuse box for power but don't know the best way or the correct fuse to use. I don't have access to a test light at the moment. I was going to use the fuse labeled ACC thinking
Did your kit come with a relay.
A relay is so you can control a large current device with a very small amount of current.
Any lighting system should be wired with a relay regardless of what fuse you tap into so it does not over load the

Oil Exploration
It looks bad, not bad for normal pilots, but bad for high altitude photo flights. There's an easy thirty minutes worth of firefighting areas, temporary military operations areas and airways changes to transcribe. It's an international air force games week hosted by Canada, because we have these vast swathes of airspace hardly anyone is using, and because it's always "mess up Aviatrix with the crazy NOTAMs" week around here. It's the time of year for Operation Maple Flag. Maple Flag is cancelled this year because our forces are stretched thin overseas. The NOTAMs actually aren't that bad, and then a little Googling reveals why. Why am I always caught operating in northeastern Alberta during Maple Flag. I also check NOTAMs for the areas we want to work. Does anyone amend their charts with all the changeover point amendments and MEA gaps. One of the issues is a NOTAMed expansion of military airspace. Gah, why do I set myself up to let company do this to me with so little preparation time before reporting....
Recreational activities.
A few years ago I used to be an owner of a ’81 Jeep Cherokee W/T. Now this is not the Cherokee most people will think of that they see on the roads today as they are all the XJ variant. I enjoyed my Cherokee very much during the time that I had it. I installed a 4″ lift and installed some BFG 33×12. You may know them better as the older Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. I had many good times driving around town and getting many compliments. One day I helped a friend go pickup his new Wrangler from a shop where he has some custom work done. I also enjoyed what little wheeling I got to do in it along with a special camping excursion I made with it. I would like to get another one day when I have the free cash to do so. Until then I will have to make do with my current daily driver. I could have used my 3/4 ton diesel truck, but its old and the fuel would have cost more compared to the Suburban I borrowed. I had to start searching for a replacement vehicle while I borrowed one of my parents’ extra cars. The ’81 is the SJ or commonly referred to as an FSJ, Full Size Jeep....
