Good
These are great, the switch looks custom on the Jeep Wrangler (JK) the only thing that i would ask is for an easier reach of the locking nuts (for directing the lights), they are very close to the bracket and you need a thin wrench or socket driver for a tight fit or you will be scratch the bracket.A dent system for directing the lights would be nice on these to avoid the problem that I described.Ligths are bright and look awosome in the jeep (windshield brackets). Tese long range/ pencil type will give you a slim and long light ray which does not make any glare from the hood like the driving type.Another thing, since these are mostly used in jeeps they should add some special instructions for them along with the regular ones, you will figure how and where to connect everything but have to give a good think, also dont forget to buy some corrugated tubing (hardware store)to protect the cables from the ligths and into the hood, other way you will have two...
OMG These things are powerfull!
* 260 Watts of blinding fury! I was going to get the flood beams but I'm glad I got these instead. The beam pattern is tight but at 100 yard in front of the Trailblazer they light up the entire road. I have them wired to come on with my highbeams so there is no switch or wire coming into the car. It took me all of 20 min to wire them up.
Great
Purchased in March 2011 for a 2004 Ford Ranger, 4x4, with a Westin brush guard. Very easy to install on the brush guard. Had a friend wire these up in about an hour. A little too much wire in some areas, a little more needed in others, but not a big problem. Definitely would purchase some plastic conduit to contain the wires and protect them, and to make the installation look professional. Easy to mount, and aim vcertically and horizontally. Price beat any other brick and mortar store and any on web site that I could research. Do your homework; some are slim lights and some are not. Some are for long range and some are for lighting up the side of the road. Some for 4x4 ing and off roading and some not. Be careful in reading the description for use and buy for the reason that you need them. Take your time and you will not be disappointed. Satisfied.

Can never have too much light
I drive a 2007 Toyota 4Runner. The rear windows have factory tint and the OEM back up lights were never really useful. I purchased the KC HiLites 55w back up system from Amazon (which, as is the case most of the time, offered the best price). The system is a slightly more clostly than throwing a couple of cheapo tractor lights under your bumper, but the lights are slim and sturdy. The kit comes with mounting hardware, relay, everything necessary to integrate the wiring correctly, and I know replacement parts are available if needed. The only additional materials I used for the install were zip ties and electrical tape. I am by no means an electrician and it took way longer than it should have to install, but I went slow so as not to blow up my beloved truck. They installed nicely into pre-existing holes in the bumper adjacent to the trailer hitch. The only drilling required was to mount the relay and ground the lights. You can purchase a switch separately if you want to...
Exactly what I needed
This kit comes with all the parts necessary to do what needs to be done. Although, I modified it slightly to fit my needs. I already had a custom switch panel inside the cab of my 04' Jeep Liberty, with leads into the engine compartment. I just swapped the location of the relay to inside the engine compartment instead of at the back of the vehicle, used hose clamps to strap it to the under side of my hitch (rather than using the supplied hardware & plates to install directly to the body) and locked it down with a nut driver. The floods are EXTREMELY bright with a nice wide beam. Of course, there is a center focus of light, but the lens spreads the rest nicely. I pulled the housing apart to see how difficult replacing the lamp is, and it's a piece of cake. It not a proprietary base or permanently encased. Just remove two screws and the lens with reflector. I might just buy the same model with similar lenses for various applications. Just spend a little more money than that...
Well thought out kit - has everything you need
This backup light kit (517) from KC Hilites has everything you need. The wires are plenty long enough for an install on a full size Nissan Titan pickup. The plastic wire loom included in the kit (to keep the wire from rubbing against the frame/body) was also plenty long. In fact it was longer than the wire and I had to cut it to length. The relay included in the kit allows you to tap into the wire going to the OEM backup lights without drawing power from those lights for the new backup lights. KC Hilites also produces a switch kit (6303 sold separately) that connects into the relay and allows you to turn on the backup lights without putting the vehicle into reverse. As noted in other reviews the description for this item is wrong on a number of accounts. Only one set of lenses is included, not three. These are the clear, long range lenses, not the fog or amber lenses. The illuminated switch is not included - that is item 6303 from KC Hilites. Light covers...

Old Tech Comes Brightly Through Like A Winner!
I purchased two Hella 4.75" Work Lamps for the rear of my Kubota RTV900 cab. At night, I had no lighting while backing up.Truthfully, one of these would have been enough, as they are not only bright but also diffuse their light over a wide area. I bought two because my cab roof was pre-drilled for two optional Kubota work lamps, and because I knew two would just look better on the RTV.The bulbs are replaceable, and not much can damage these rubber housings. They are also well sealed to the elements. Only one wire is required for hook-up as the metal adjustable attachment provides grounding. These are also the same work lights truckers have used on the rear and sides of their cabs for years - with proven reliability over time in all weather. You can mount these just about anywhere, in any position, and the well sealed wire has a rugged cover that holds up well - although it is only about six or nine inches long. All bolts, nuts, and lock washers are...
Great BACK-UP lights
I attached these underneath the rear bumper of my Excursion for use as additional back-up lights. They are bright and cast a very wide beam. Excellent view for backing up in any situation. The one problem I had involved one of the rubber housings leaking during a rain storm. The water leaked in somewhere and filled the rubber housing to the point the water ran into the sealed beam from the open back, where the bulb is installed. This ruined the silver coating on the inside surface of the lamp. I drilled some "weep" holes in the bottom of the housing and the problem has not recurred. The light output was minimally diminished so I do not see a need to replace the lamp.
Bought four and installed them as off-road lights
So I wanted some additional lighting for off-soad driving but didn't want to spend $120 for the cheaper Hella lights. I had seen these lights on a work truck before and knew them to be good and bright. So I bought four, installed them on my brush guard and voila! The night becomes day! Very bright fairly attractive and in the unlikely event someone decides to steal them, another set can be had for $48!

Pleased with Hella Black Magic lights
I installed these lights with my son on his jeep. The installation was pretty straight forward, though I think the directions could be a bit more clear. Would have liked a little more adjustment downwards in the mounts as we put the lights up near the mirrors. Good kit with enough wire, and the lights look sharp.
Looks Great, but what a pain!
I got these because they were cheap, and would look great on my black jeep. Hella is a reputable brand, so I figured it was a safe bet. After they are all installed I am overall happy, but I wouldn't recommend them to others. These were a hassle to install, the switch that came with the pack was bad, and the grounds for the headlamps have way to short of wires. The directions are about as informative and helpful as listening to an automated messaging service! These are not brighter that the headlights that come on the jeep, although they do add more light. If I were to do it all again I would just go with the either more expensive PIAA's or Lightforce, or for the wiring wary: go with the Warn Wireless ones. I spent the difference in price in added wires, testers, and a switch.
For looks only!
I have these installed on the top my bull bar and on the bottom I have PIAA plasma ION driving lights. These lights look cool but they are not bright at all I mean they look dim compared to my factory headlights. I changed the bulbs and wiring to accommodate 100 watt bulbs but they are still dim compared to my PIAA lights with 85 watt bulbs. With 100 watt bulbs the light output is acceptable but for a total price with bulbs wiring etc. of 140 dollars I would have gladly spent an extra 40 dollars to get the PIAA 520s and PIAAs are much easier to install and have a much better beam pattern and light output in addition they have a metal housing instead a cheap plastic one.

Jeep Wrangler fog lights have no switch?

Dec 04, 2010 by rsnipes29512 | Posted in Jeep

Just bought 2001 Jeep Wrangler with factory installed fog lights. The rocker switch has never been punched out and installed. No wires under dash leading to it- took dash apart. Any idea whats going on or how to turn on the fog lights?

The factory switch is on the end of the headlight switch which is on the steering column. You will need to pull out on the end of the knob to turn them on. The knob will only pull out when the headlights are in the on position. You can order an owners

how do i install baja fog lights on a jeep? i need to know how the wiring goes together?

i need to know how the wiring goes on a set of baja fog lights

Run the positive wire from the two lights together, and tap off that connection to one side of the switch, from the other post on the switch, run to a fuse and then on to a positive connection ie: your battery. The other wire(negitive) wire from the lamps

Outside on the Night Shift

Before Meleen can explain his night’s tasks, mostly stopping drivers for vehicle violations, we’re on our way, the Crown Vic responding with giddy-up enthusiasm. "Basically,” says Aaron Meleen, a deputy sheriff traffic investigator working the night shift in Poway, “we don’t have much going on right now. Meleen, 27, sports a slicked-back hairstyle, short sidewalls with pronounced sideburns — a bit Guido, a bit Presley. ” It’s a Monday evening, the onset of his 12½-hour shift, and we’re strapped in his shock-worn Crown Vic, bouncing out of the station onto Civic Center Drive. The cruiser’s front compartment is a mélange of computer screen, keyboard, gun rack, intercom, dash-mounted radar scope, and handheld devices such as a cell phone and a clip-on video camera. Pulling into an apartment complex, he says, “You’re welcome to come along but hang back a little. The car’s GPS screen blips a code, brackets an address: fellow deputy Darrin Smith and his partner are at a “family disturbance,” two minutes away.

Mount points for factory fog lights (In retrospect this isn't very important, I kept the factory fogs for a year but will probably replace them in the next 3-6 months) mid- to full-width (mid prefered, no stubby), mounting points for aux lights,... The wait was over 4 months and they charged my credit card in-full at the time of order. ) Aside from the long wait, they sent some of the wrong things (ordered black shackles they sent polished stainless steel) and the bumper itself was damaged in a number of places (not just chipped powder coating but actual gouges in the metal). (When the credit card companies catch on these guys are going to be in trouble....

No need having that sitting on there when I wont be towing the jeep any place, the idea is this will be my daily driver for the summer then get an xj or zj or some other suv type thing for the winter and park the 6 into the garage and try to fix... Alright, so some things ive noticed past couple days while slowly working on things.  On that note i wire wheeled off a bit of rust off the hood and painted it yellow.  Wondering what color the jeep was originally this or that yellow.  While wrestling with the dashboard i was turning the steering wheel back and forth and noticed the whole front end moving.  Oh yea forgot I got the hood off so it was more noticeable watching the radiator moving tons.  I have gotten all the screws out of the dashboard now to figure out how to get everything unhooked....
