You'll be glad it's a Warn when you REALLY need it!
I've been off-roading for more than four decades. Bikes, buggies and now, a 4x4. Never really thought I needed a winch until I got the 4X4, but since my Trooper weighs in at around 4,500 pounds, I knew there was no way I could get out of a "sticky" situation without a winch. I run in sand at Hatteras, hills and woods at Wind Rock and make the occasional trip to CO to explore old mining trails and hunt for ghost towns. And I always travel alone. So, one of my first purchases for the Trooper was an ARB bullbar and a Warn M8000. That was in 2002. Oddly, since then, I haven't had a desperate need for a winch. Oh, there have been numerous times when I have had to clear a large branch or tree from the trail, but I've never been stuck, so I never had a chance to put the M8000 to the test. Then, this Spring, I had a 70', 18" diameter black pine break in a windstorm and fall into the lake near my boat dock where we live. After failing to get TVA to remove it (it was on their...
Does what it says
This is the best basic winch you can get. Don't be fooled into buying any of the cheaper ones. Learn from my mistakes. It does what it says it does. Pulls four tons. Has paid for itself in my case with one emergency use. Had to pull and lift 2.5 tons which it did with ease. I would recommend having a snatch block and either a chain or heavy strap to give more options when needed. It is not always possible to get the truck with the winch in exactly the right spot. The snatch block allows for more choices.
Great product
I almost bought this from another retailer but decided to go with Amazon since their customer service is so good. I'm glad I did. The first winch didn't work. Amazon sent another winch overnight had UPS pick up the broken winch. I love Amazon.

Warn is best
I have had a couple of Warn winches and they have always preformed flawlessly. We are in a large 4 wheel drive club and get out off-roading quite often. When the need arises the Warn winches are always up to the task. Others in the club use different brands and quite often there are failures with the other brands and people with the Warn winches seem to always be the ones to bail those others out. Warns customer service is top notch and they stand behind their product like no other company.

Good product for the money
UPDATE 4-5-2011.I Called Smittybilt customer Service (Also procomp) and turns out when amazon.com shipped my unit it's possible the carrier dropped the box a certain way. My clutch lever was loose and this is NOT normal. They are sending me a replacement unit and gear cover to fix the issue for free. So if you purchase this - make sure the lever is tight when shifted from freespool to engaged as mine was pretty loose and could move with a pinky. B/c of the good customer service - i've changed to 5 starsEND UPDATEI just installed this on my cherokee XJ so this review will be specific to that installation. I have an ARB Bull Bar on a 2001 XJ. I attached a picture to the amazon for review.Packaging:This product comes shipped in a box. the styrofoam must be cheap b/c some of it melted on the controller cable. There appears to be no dents or dings and things came well. The synthetic cable doesn't come on the drum and is in it's...
Great Winch for the Price
I've only used this winch a couple of times, but I love it. Thanks to the 100' of rope, I was able to self recover my truck while off-road by attaching to a tree that was around 75' away. Also used it to pull 8'-10' lengths of firewood out of the woods. It has a nice line speed.
smittybilt xrc 8 comp winch
This winch is a very nice package it looks great. The rope is worth the extra coin just for easy use and quality of rope and safety.Winch functions easy has a good line speed for the cost of the winch. They remote works fine but could use a little rubber on shell just in case you wear to drop it a lot.I plan on mounting mine on the inside of my buggy so this will not be a issue for me.I also like that when you hook the remote to the winch you have to turn it clock wise to lock it which is a great thing for the hard rock crawling or trail rides cause it is less app to vibrate loose.Great over buy like it way better than my last winch the warn 8k with a different rope.

Easy Install
I wanted to replace my stock bumpers with these for a more simplier look but sturdier feel. I thought these were going to be a pain to install but it was very easy to do. It uses the stock holes but if you want to feel reinforced with the install you will have to drill a few holes through the stock frame. The only downside is there are holes for the license plate but it just doesn't work right.Overall great product!
A nice compact and sturdy bumper
I wanted a compact and slim bumper that didn't stick out a lot, but did stick out to the sides enough that the bumper would hit a rock before my fender hit it. I also wanted mounting holes for driving lights in a convenient place, d-ring shackle mounts, and a way to mount a winch. This bumper gave me everything I wanted -- it's a simple bumper, and does exactly what it's supposed to do without being bigger than it needs to be. Hint for using a hi-lift jack with this bumper: Stick the nose into your d-rings. The bottom *is* a bit slippery, and it'll slide right off a hi-lift otherwise (of course, if you're trying to pick up your Jeep and push it sideways to get it off a rock, that might be exactly what you want...).Note: The Warn winch mounting plate does *not* come with this bumper, you'll need to buy it separately. No big deal, it allows you to build your Jeep in stages without having a winch mount you don't need taking up space in front of your Jeep, then buy the...
Tough lookng bumper
Bumper looks great on the Jeep, but I must say didn't show up in the greatest looking shape with deeper gouges on the passenger side top. Overall, it was very, very simply to put on, and it is a big step up from the chrome bumpers my jeep had on it from the previous owner!

Jeeps hold their value very well . You can drive that Jeep for 6 years and probably sell it for $7,000 . That's only $500 per year in depreciation . Any other vehicle would be worth only $3,500 .

The NuKizer, a Jeep for the Ages

Source: Street Side Auto Blog

The NuKizer is an homage to Jeep’s Kaiser M-715 truck, a Gladiator-based military spec pickup introduced in 1969. Not much could persuade me to change my mind, but a certain concept vehicle from Mopar and Jeep might do the trick, especially if they ever put it into production. A few weeks ago, I finished up the Dream Garage series, laying out in detail what dream cars I could actually afford and why I chose them.   It isn’t often that a concept vehicle gets past my watch, but somehow Mopar’s NuKizer 715 did.   It first showed up at the 2010 Easter Jeep Safari in Moab, Utah.   I chose an old Toyota Pickup for its staggering durability and cool, Back to the Future ‘80s look.   Part four covered the ideal tough toy , that rugged, go-anywhere truck or SUV best suited to haul your stuff and hurl you into adventure....
