Jeep Cargo Net Installation - News

2008 small SUV faced stiff competition
To help secure cargo, there were three grocery-bag hooks, six flush-mount tie-down anchor points and six cargo-net mounting points. The load floor was an easy-to-clean composite. While the 2008 Tucson was still a noteworthy example of that more benign

Great Cartop Carrier
We purchased this carrier because our current carrier, a hitch-based carrier on the rear of the car, put too much weight on the rear of the vehicle, making it hard to steer in wet or icy conditions. The bag is made of VERY heavy vinyl-type fabric. So heavy in fact that it is hard to open, close, and zip. But once you get it worked out (I brought it inside to warm it up, which helped a lot) it is a nice accessory. The straps were easy to lace through the eyelets, and although it was not detailed in the instructions how to lace them through, I was able to work it out in no time. Instructions could have been clearer. The zippers are very heavy duty, but because the fabric is so heavy they are difficult to open or close. I believe this is a function of the fabric being water resistant. I found myself trying to stretch the creases / folds out of the fabric in order to pull the zipper. Even a TINY crease will prevent the zipper from moving as the fabric is...
Well Worth the Money
This past December I found myself in need of a cargo bag for a one time, 2000 mile drive. After researching different options (all with price tags in the $100's of dollars) I stumbled across the rain ex. I thought I would give it a try. I was shocked at how much baggage it held and how easy it was to attach and detach from my Blazer. (Although it held so much cargo that once it was off it was hard to manage due to the fact that its a bag not a shell) We went through a few rain storms and not a drop got inside. I was more than pleased with its performance and anyone who isn't simply isn't being realistic for the money. I would recommend it to anyone for one or two time use on a major trip.
Not for cold weather.
This is a great value for the money but only in warm weather. The material gets so stiff in cold weather that it is almost impossible to work the zippers, and the zipper flap cracked open at a seam in 20degree weather while trying to lift the flap to get at the zipper.

Ok for the money
This is not a terribly expensive product and for the price, it works ok. It easily fit my Jeep Cherokee--no need for the extensions which was nice. However, it required modifications for it to stay in place. The screws which are supposed to hold the cross pieces in place do not tighten enough and my dog was able to push between the cross pieces and slide them apart! My husband used clamps to secure the cross pieces and they now work fine. The device could use some spring tension to tighten it between floor and ceiling as well because it can get knocked out of place (without even loosening). All that being said, if you are handy with a few tools, this barrier works well and is rather streamlined and unobtrusive.
May as well give the dog the keys to the car
Cheap, cheap, cheap. The screws don't tighten-up enough to secure the bars from moving, so the dog can slide them up and down and from side to side. Sometime they even went from side to side when I was turning a corner. The top and bottom "feet" slide out of place no matter how much you tighten the wing nut. Twice, while driving down the road, the thing just fell on top of the dog!!!After securing all the moving parts with duct tape and gluing rubber on the feet in an attempt to keep them from moving, which they still do...( & I'm still trying to replace the seatbelt that the dog ate before I found out the bars slide,I am using it, but I wish I had bought a better brand. Don't buy this product. Spend a little more and get a better barrier.
Works fine for a small station wagon
We wanted a barrier to keep our German Shepherd from nosing our backseat passengers in our Ford Escort wagon. Petco and Petsmart had versions of this for $60-$70. I was a little hesistant to order online because there weren't any MINIMUM dimensions (lots of maximum heights for SUVs). However, this works great (it would fit even in a smaller space, if there are any smaller cars out there) and was less than half the cost of buying from a pet supply company.

Like an ICBM on the Roof of my SUV
Works great and fits my Honda Pilot w/ factory crossbars. This box is built noticeably sturdier when compared to some of the less expensive or older models. However, I'm not convinced the shell really needs to be thicker than other boxes including their own since they all come with a 100% lifetime warranty. I have never heard of problems with the boxes being damaged unless they fly off your car. The thicker shell does add to the weight of the box. At 47 pounds it is five pounds more than the comparable RocketBox 16. Honestly, I was looking for the cheapest one I could find that was long enough to fit skis and snowboards (this one is 81 inches-skis can be angled to get a few more inches if needed) and sit on top of my Honda Pilot without getting in the way of the rear hatch. Again, all Yaks and Thules have a 100% factory warranty and if you get them from rei they will stand by their stuff forever. I don't consider this one "cheap" at all but, it was the only that fit my...
skybox 1
took a long maiden trip through heavy, heavy, heavy rain and it came through like a champ. No moisture in the box at all.what I don't like is the hinge opening. its fallen apart twice. It is not a permanent break but it is annoying.
Beware of Cracking
I have purchased two Yakima Skyboxes with mixed results. In general they do a good job of providing additional storage capacity for a variety of uses. My primary complaint is cracking of the plastic box. Both boxes I have purchased started cracking within the first year of use. I contacted Yakima regarding warranty service and they suggested repairing with ABS Cement. They would not warrant their product. For the significant investment required to purchase one of these products I certainly would expect better product life and associated warranty. It's too bad that Yakima can't make these boxes tougher as they would be a truly great product. The cracking however is totally unacceptable and along with the lack of warranty replacement is the basis of my two-star rating.

Dodge revives, redesigns Durango

29.09.11
But the new Durango, like its predecessor, has a third row of seating, while the Grand Cherokee has just two rows. The Dodge Durango is back on the market, reborn for 2011 as a midsize crossover utility vehicle, based on the architecture of the redesigned 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It has the new Dodge crosshair grille, instantly putting it in the Dodge family of vehicles. That gives the Durango a capacity of seven passengers, compared with five for the Grand Cherokee. The Durango has its own distinctive styling, different from the Grand Cherokee, inside and out. On my recent weeklong test of the Durango, the extra capacity came in handy for a long trip, during which we needed room for six people and their luggage.
