Broan/Nautilus 678 fan7light combo
In my case this was basically a straight swap of one unit for it's newer twin. The instructions were perfect and the hardware and brackets were correct. The fan has been up and running for almost two months now and is quiet and efficient.
Works Great
First, I bought this from a local big box store but it's the same model number and brand. I'm leaving review to help prospective buyers in their decision making. This model require access to the attic in order to be able to install it properly. It's definitely not doable from the bottom of the ceiling alone. This is the kind that the housing requires direct screwing into the ceiling joist. Other models have separate brackets from the housing. This model however doesn't have that separate bracket/mount that makes installation from the bottom possible.Installation was a breeze. It was my first time installing an exhaust fan but I did my homework though before I went for it. It took me, a handy amateur, 2 & 1/2 hours to complete the installation. That includes opening the box, reading the installation guide, googling clarifications, getting in and out of the attic, planning placement of the hole, sawing the holes, wiring, screwing the housing, connecting...
Not a bad fan for the size, still it's not as quiet as I'd like
Good fan for the price. The manufacturer made changes in it, you can no longer replace the motor or any of the insides as you could to previous models made by this company. It works nice, just a bit more noise than I'd like.

EXCELLENT fan & easy retrofit installation - will be buying more!
i'm really happy that this ended up being a good investment. i was searching for a quality fan to use in a small bathroom/shower area. i was concerned that due to the small space, the fan might end up reverberating, being loud - as some other reviews mentioned with panasonic in similar sizes. that was not the case. it was an easy install... it's powerful yet purrs very quietly and the light is nice and bright, yet soft and well distributed. i did not hook up the nightlight. excellent shipping took about 72 hours from time of order to actual delivery.
excellent quality - ultra quiet
I had some thoughts on when I took it out of the box if this would fit in the opening in my ceiling but after some cutting here and there it fit nicely and secured. The joist brackets that came with the unit were a little difficult in the beginning to install between the ceiling joists but once I got everything removed and cleared I had no problems. The only problem I have and still have is the light fixture it doesn't work at all except for the night light. I went out and purchase new bulbs and it still didn't work so there is something wrong with the light fixture. I have power going into the fixture but the main lights do not work. I called Panasonic and had a rough time with one technician who wanted to talk to my electrician who install it for me and kept telling me I needed a three way switch for it to work and of course that does not say that in the instruction manual. So, I got a case number and waited about 10 minutes and called again and spoke to another technician who...

Tiny fan, moves a lot of air
This fan works great! I installed it last night. It spins very quickly on its highest setting, and it moves a lot of air for its size. The bulb socket is a miniature Edison base rated at 65W, so it may be a bit dim for larger rooms.I hooked this fan up to a fan/light control switch on the wall, so I wanted to remove the pullchains. To do so, perform the following BEFORE MOUNTING THE FAN and AT YOUR OWN RISK:* Remove the three screws that hold the light socket over the housing, and pull open the cover.* There are a bunch of wires and wire nuts that attach the fan speed pullchain, fan direction switch, and light pullchain together.* Unscrew the fan speed pullchain switch and the light pullchain switch. Yank all the wires out of both switches.* The black and blue wires go straight through the fan to the other side - they're coming directly from the source.* To bypass the light pullchain, connect the blue wire to the black wire of the light...
Great Size - Noisy
If you are purchasing this just based on the size and appearance, the fan is great. I think the thing is noisy and has a constant low level hum. I have 4 other Hunter fans in my home and all are extremely quiet - Unfortunately, this was the only one I could find in this small size so I was limited to Westinghouse. It went into my daughter's room and she says that I am the only one to notice the hum so I guess it's OK for 50 bucks.
NOT NOISY
I am surprised by the noisy comment. I installed this fan in my daughters bedroom and I hardly notice it's on. It has worked out quite well and the instructions were great.

Excellent Buy
This ceiling fan is an excellent buy for the money. I was pleasantly suprised at how it looked after I installed it in my Living Room. I have read the other reviews about the fan making noise, so I was a bit skeptical about buying it, but I bought it anyways. Boy I am glad I did! This is a really good looking ceiling fan. Gives the room a classy, but not too flashy look. Every person who has come to the house after I installed this has complimented on it. As far as noise, I experienced none. Just make sure when you put the blades together with the arms, make certain that the screws are good and tight. I used a cordless DeWalt drill with the torque setting set low to #12 to assure a good tight fit. I actually was so impressed with the looks and operation of this fan that I immeadiately went back to amazon.com and bought another fan exactly like this one, for my kitchen. Same review - absolutely no problems, none whatsoever. Shipping was very fast with the free super saver...
Easy install and quiet!
I have installed several ceiling fans in the past, but the people at Westinghouse really made the install easy with their fan. Unlike most fans which require you to hold the fan motor up while wiring it in, Westinghouse put a separate plug on their motor. You wire up the plug to the home outlet, then lift the motor up. Could not be easier. It took 30 minutes total to install. The fan is very quiet during operation. The fan output is also very impressive.I am very happy with the fan and would highly recommend it.
A few things you might like to know
1. This is a 3-speed-plus "off" fan with a reverse-direction switch and an attached light assembly. Both can be controlled by pull cords if desired.2. The instructions are adequate, but assume knowledge of safe wiring and connection practices. This is not an absolute beginner's project, though if you have any successful experience in house wiring, you can probably do this.3. For planning purposes, the complete job (removing old fixture and installing fan and light unit) took me a little over 2 1/2 hours. I am a careful and methodical amateur. You are working at the top of a ladder in awkward positions, so there is a high likelihood of dropping screws. If you are working over a deep pile carpet, put down a drop cloth or you will wish you had!4. Westinghouse needs better quality control. There was a missing wire nut in the fan interface wiring which was instantly obvious, and there weren't anywhere near enough metal washers for the fan blade...

what do you call the glass covers on the lights of ceiling fans?

Jun 16, 2009 by Cupidstrick | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

i wanted to buy new ones online, but i couldn't think of the word for them. they aren't sconces.....i know there is a word. its on the tip of my tongue. god this is frustrating. thanks for your help ;)

They are typically called globes, covers, or diffusers. But don't worry, no one really knows what to call them so if you go into a store and describe them, they will understand.

crafty solution to covering a ceiling fan for dimming the light?

Jun 12, 2007 by missnchris | Posted in Decorating & Remodeling

At my reception site we have about 8 ceiling fans with 4 globe style lights on each fan. There are no dimmers on the fan lights, so I am thinking about putting some type of material over the lights to dim them. Do you think that would look good? Do you

Well putting something "ON" the globes in not usually a good idea (fire hazard and all) plus anything loose can get grabbed by the fan. I would suggest trying different lightbulbs. You can start by using lower wattage bulbs, and even mixed

Fans around the Forum returned their love by lifting their arms and forming hearts with their hands. The crowd squealed and hollered as Swift ran off stage with the groom in the end. Soon, the song's toe-tapping beat became inescapable, even to the groom, and the bride stormed off as the bridesmaids and guests broke into a choreographed piece.
