Worth The Money
Installing the alarm system is simple. You just have to plan out what features you want to install. Use Relays!! Read! Read! Read! If you don't have a wiring diagram for your vehical,get one. Guessing can be Very Costly. Have it installed. Well worth the money.

Excellent
I am generally very pleased with this product. I am no mechanic, but I have done various types of wiring on a car (stereo, fog lights, subwoofers, rewiring of OEM systems, etc.). This was obviously more in depth than any normal stereo installations. For me, the installation took a little longer than expected (7-8 hours). This was due in part to various distractions, lack of proper tools to dissemble/reassemble my vehicle's dash and other components, and time spent researching some wiring diagrams for my '96 Jeep Cherokee. Once installed, however, this product works amazingly (as one would expect for a system that originally costs $270). It starts the engine up without any overstart/grinding and kills the engine quickly when asked to. The siren is fairly audible and the system outputs to the horn when the alarm is triggered for that extra attention. I would definitely recommend getting all relevant wiring diagrams for your vehicle and necessary tools together before starting the...

Great product!!!
The Crimestopper SP-400 Alarm with Remote Start and Keyless entry system is a great product. I am extremely satisfied with the performance and quality of the product. It would be difficult to install if you do not have any electrical experience in the Automotive field. If you do not have any experience, I would suggest to get it installed by a professional. I am a Auto mechanic, so I have access to vehicle wiring diagrams. I wish they had a more detailed wiring diagram with the product, the basics are there, but if you are not familiar with the vehicle you are wiring, it will be difficult. But, I am very satisfied with the finished product installed, it also came at a great price. I would definitely recommend this product to others. Thank You, Crimestopper.

Works great, when it works
I did not purchase this on Amazon but rather bought it and had it installed by an authorized dealer. I was shown how to use it after installation and was thrilled by my new toy. Unfortunately, I would estimate that it only works about 10% of the time. I have found that whether or not the module receives service does not depend on the location as you would think, but it seems that regardless of where your vehicle is parked, service fades in and out. Now I am left with the predicament of whether to wait to see if coverage is improved as time goes on, or trying to return the item where I bought it and attempting to recover the installation cost as well as the $100 I already paid for three years of service.

Great addition to a Viper Remote Start
I bought this DSM100 smartstart module to go with my Viper 5301 remote start system. Installation of the module by myself was a breeze. It literally plugs right into the existing remote start system. If you don't have an existing directed electronics smartstart compatible remote start system then it's a much more involved process and it's best left to a professional AUTHORIZED Directed Electronics Dealer. The installation was the easiest part of the whole process, because I bought the module myself and installed it myself I had to then find an Authorized Directed Electronics dealer to activate the device itself. Without activation by an authorized installer the module is useless. Directed Electronics will not under any circumstance allow self activation of the module. I had to travel 50 miles and pay $40 for a dealer to activate the system. I was frustrated that Directed Electronics doesn't trust us enough to allow us to activate a module ourselves. unreliable
I bought directed smartstart and had it installed on my lexus rx in november of 2009. at first it seemed to work fine(like for a week). then all of a sudden all i would get as a message on my iphone was command not received even though i had great reception on my phone. turns out the company wasn't preparted for all the data influx from the popularity of the product and the information or commands are not processed. It seems as though by december they had it fixed and things were going great. and now its back to the same problem and its during the coldest days we have had here in minneapolis. So its unrealiable. I recommend not getting this product for awhile until they can work out all the problems they have.

DIY decent budget security
If you're looking to add a little protection to your house or apt, this might be what you're looking for. First off, it's got some nice features. The dialing of numbers works well, and there is a panel you can remove that gives access to some terminals that allow you to add other inputs and an external siren. Also, the siren inside is plenty loud in my opinion. The longest delay you can set before the system triggers is 20 seconds. So if this isn't mounted right near your door, you pretty much have to go straight to it and disarm it. The delay after arming it is a solid 60 seconds. My biggest problem with it was that it's all one piece, because the best place to put a motion sensor is high up in a corner, and the best place to put the control box is somewhere hidden near your door (and near a phone outlet). A bit of a train reck
I am being generous with the stars. The sensor works pretty well, and the Auto Dialer works as advertised however there are some issues with this device. It might work well if it was on a dedicated line but on a single line there are some real issues. When some one calls the phone the alarm goes off and the caller gets the siren. We set this up before going on vacation and had so many calls to my cell phone that we had to have the neighbor turn it off! It was simply a matter of calling the house and you would get a call from the alarm system shortly there after. The price was right but in line with it's performance.

Security alarm
This little gem is priceless! We had doubts of it's dependability and although we've only had it installed for a few weeks it has already worked well....a little too well. The unit is placed in a remote location and dials our home. One late night the phone rang and the alram sounded - rushed to the sight with gun and clubs in hand only to find that a very large spider triggered it. Whew, a little bug spray later we are quite pleased with this unit.
