Faster than the top-rated 70P:
I've had a VIAIR 70P for quite some time and that unit is great for the small pump that it is. When I needed another small portable compressor that was able to be powered by a cigarette lighter power socket, I noticed that VIAIR had a new model and got one. This one is almost twice as fast as the 70P and every bit as quiet. The unit doesn't walk around when you're using it and the brass screw-on tire chuck makes for almost no air loss. The LED power indicator is a nice touch and I found the air pressure gauge to be spot-on as long as I turn the compressor off to check pressure. In all, another nice unit. -I just wish this was available when I got my 70P. Side note: don't throw away the box - its a means of storage since this unit doesn't come with a carry bag.
Better Quality Than I Anticipated
I've had several other portable air compressors in the past but they were always in the $20, and below price range, which in essence turned out to be "junk. This is the first time I've purchased a Viair Air Compressor. I was hesitant in spending nearly $50 for for one, but once I received it I was very impressed with its quality and efficiency. I like the fact that the air hose fitting is brass and the end screws onto the air valves of tires. Unlike the toggle type of hose fittings on the cheaper models (which leak a substantial amount of air when you attach or detach them to the air valve and are cumbersome to use), the screw on brass fitting of the Viair loses a negligent amount of air during this operation. The pump is relatively quite for a portable, and it doesn't bounce around nearly as much as the cheaper models tend do. The air gage is very accurate (readings should be taken with the air hose attached and the compressor off ). My bicycle tires were about 15 lbs low and it only...
Powerful Compressor, requires too much electricity
Item arrived quickly. The compressor is very compact and feels well built and heavy. I verified before purchase that it draws 14.5 amps, 12v. My power sources on a 05 landcruiser are 15 amp 12v. I tested it this weekend. Started the vehicle, used the rear cargo Aux socket to fill the two rear tires, it has plenty of power and inflated quickly. I moved it to the front cabin Aux socket on dash, and it blew the 15 amp fuse. Then I used the 15 amp cig lighter socket, and it blew that too. Its not much use if it blows the fuse when you need it most. I'm going to look into a direct battery power adapter plug.

Great Plug-in Tire Inflator
Why I like this tire inflator: 1. It plugs into any 120 volt outlet. I have 12 volt inflators and they have their place, but cannot compare to this unit. 2. It's fast. I just inflated a wheelbarrow tire from 5 psi to 30 psi in about 45 seconds. 3. The pressure gauge is accurate. One of my 12 volt inflators is off by 10 psi (under). 4. The screw-on valve is not as bad as you would think. It will only bleed one or two psi off a normal tire while its removed. 5. The screw-on valve is far superior to the clamp-on type. I feel that more air is lost when unclamping. Also, the wheelbarrow valve stem was too short for a clamp-on. 6. It comes with numerous inflation adapters. What I don't like: 1. I would prefer a ball-type valve rather than the screw-on. 2. It seems to struggle as it approaches 30 psi. I worry that it won't be able to handle the 70 psi required...
It does the job
This is a perfect air pump. It inflates tires quickly and relatively quietly. The gage is very accurate. I checked it against a couple of others that I own so will rely on it from now on. It seems to be well made with no defects noted. I am looking forward to many years of use. I have been disappointed with others especially the ones that rely on a battery or 12V cigarette connection. They often blow fuses and knock out other things in the car. Never again. I would say buy with confidence. It only works with american type tire valves. It has an adapter for euopean valve stems but would not work on my bike.
Solid inflator
My old model Bon-Aire BA121L 120v gave up on me after only 2 seasons of light use so it was time to invest in another air inflator. I wanted one that was 120v as I was not comfortable with the pumps that run off your car charger. I've only used this a couple of times, but I can see that this is a much more solid inflator than my previous one. When you turn it on it sounds solid, there are no moving parts so this should last longer than your conventional inflators, it's much quieter than my old pump and it pumps quicker too. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars and not five was because it uses a screw on valve to pump tires on my cars. I personally like the snap on type of valve because it's easier and quicker, but I do find that with screw on valves it loses less air from the tires when you unscrew it.

Fast, easy, quiet
So much better than my loud, rumbling old compressor! This product is lightweight, easy to use, quick and quiet. You start by plugging it in and attaching it to the tire. It will give you the current pressure reading. Then, hold a button for a few seconds and set the desired pressure. Press the power button and watch as the pressure reading increases as the tire inflates. When it reaches the pressure setting you chose, it shuts off. All in all, it probably didn't take more than 30 seconds to raise my pressure by 7 PSI. I double-checked the reading using another digital tire gauge I have, and it was .5 PSI less -- this could have easily been due to air loss when removing the hose or inserting the gauge (or the gauge could be wrong). Either way, close enough. The unit's housing allows you to store the hose and power cord inside, which is quite convenient. So far, I'm very happy with this -- it's nice to see an innovation in the lower end of the market for these...
It is OK
I got this inflator because of the digital display and automatic shut off. Well, the unit does that and does it well. Actuall too well, as I cannot pump any balls with it, as it just shuts off itself a few seconds after the start. It inflates tires well, but I noticed that it does not measure the pressure correctly. If you set it at 35PSI and check the pressure after inflating it would be in 38-40PSI range. I need to set it to lower settings to get the results right. It inflates quickly and queitly, but cannot measure the pressure right and does not inflate balls.
Easy to use
I'm really not a "car guy" or DIY type. The most advanced service I perform on my car is replacing wiper blades. I just wanted a simple compressor to keep my tires up to spec. This model is very easy to use and adequately accurate. You just set it to the PSI you need and let it run. It shuts itself off when it's done, so you don't have to worry about over-inflating. The only downside is that it can't plug into a standard outlet - you have to use the 12V "cigarette lighter" plug and plug it into your car. That's a plus if you're keeping this in the trunk for a roadside emergency, but it would be nice to plug it into a a regular outlet in the garage.

simply good enough
i have read all the reviews of this type of product and i'm sure glad i didn't go over budget with this one. this thing is noisy for sure but not deafening if you are outdoor. it is slow compared to the station pump but it did a large SUV tire in ten minutes.....not bad i say. the pressure guage is accurate enough when i compared it to the pocket devices. but it is so light, small, easy to use and affordable that you have to accept a few short comings. overall it does the intended job simply good enough for me and i would expect most people to be satisfied also. my one concern with it is that there is no safety blow off system so my wife must pay attention for the ten minutes watching that pressure guage. then again, it is made for adults.
IT WORKS JUST FINE for Occasional Home Use.
NO this is Not a commercial air compressor, it's meant for occasional home use and it does just fine in that capacity. Yes it takes a bit longer to fill up a tire and it makes a lot of noise for something this size. If you want something faster and quieter you can spend two to three times more. I personally don't think it is worth it for what I use it for. This works well to top off a tires air pressure, a beach ball, football etc. It will not fill up a pool float, air mattress or anything large it just does not produce the large volume of air required to do so. I only use this 5 to 6 times a year and have been doing so for 4 plus years with the same compressor. This has held up exceptionally well even though it sounds like it is going to fall apart when I run it. It has basically paid for itself with the gas I have saved going to the service station and the fee they charge to use there compressor. Also keeping your tires inflated to the right pressure will...
Disappointing performance
I used this for a couple of different things. 1. To top up the air in a car tire. It took a long time (over 2 mins) to go from 25psi to 34psi. 2. To fill a medium size inflatable toy. This took over 10 minutes. The things that I liked about this compressor: 1. Compact size 2. Price Cons: 1. Extremely noisy and it vibrates a lot, causing it to move on the road due to the vibration. 2. Very slow performance (see results above) 3. Tube is really short - about 18 inches. My car has 18" wheels and with the tire nozel at the position highest off the road, the tube barely reached. 4. Only works on 12v. Would be nice if it worked on AC power as well. 5. The pressure guage is not too accurate, but merely an approximation. I guess you get what you pay for, but due to the number of cons, this one is going back. I am surprised that AAA would lend their name to such a sub-standard product.

I want to but a compact generator that also has a battery jumper cable, a tire inflator and an air compressor.

Any bicycle pump or air compressor recommendations?

Aug 15, 2008 by violet | Posted in Cycling

I googled to look for DC air compressor for the bicycle as well as for the car. I have a mountain bike with 26" x 1.95" tires. There are mixed reviews on the Slime 300 PSI at Amazon, one reviewer said takes a 15 Amp not 12 Amp. Didn't make

Buy one of the Bell bicycle pumps from Walmart they work the best and are guarantied for 3 years. Those 12v air compressors are pretty much junk. If you get a flat on your car they will never fill it up before the battery died or the compressor burned

Q.Dear Lennard,

Also, on descents, tubular tires often melt the glue that attaches the tire to the wheel or over-heat the inner tube, which can also cause a flat. While I agree with you on every point except the wheel weight comparison, I think that the most fundamental reasons for the persistence of tubulars and the dearth of tubeless in top-level road racing have to do with sponsorship, tradition, and... The other benefit is that they can be inflated at lower pressures, which roll smoother (and I bet faster) than my tubular tires. Because I feel more secure riding my 2-way fit wheels mounted with tubeless tires, which (even without sealant) never go flat. Take a look at Lightweight’s clinchers, which can easily be used for tubeless tires without rim tape. In fact, I don’t even bring an inner tube with me in case I flat, just some foam sealant, which, over the past two years, I’ve never had to use. Tubeless tires never have this problem.
